Process Description

Implementing a backup management system is mandatory for protecting client applications and data in the event of a system failure.  However, successful recovery within a timeframe acceptable to the client requires a well-thought-out plan that synchronizes the activities  of all involved.  

MSP Module 07b, Recovery Planning describes development of a comprehensive Recovery Plan for a client's systems.  The resulting Recovery Plan is based on the impact and risk assessments in the client's Business Continuity Plan, defining the scope and strategies for recovery planning.  The process module describes planning interviews with the client and development of detailed system restoration procedures.  Once the plan is finalized and approved, both the solution provider's staff and key client stakeholders are trained on the plan.

This module consists of the Module Overview Diagram plus 6 pages of detailed process maps personalized for your company.

The goals of this process are to:

  • Develop (or update) the Recovery Plan for a client, ensuring that it supports their business continuity goals
  • Improve the probability of a successful recovery following a system failure
  • Reduce the time to recover from a system failure
  • Prepare client stakeholders and service team members to execute the Recovery Plan

At the onset of this process:

  • Backup Management service is live for this client
  • Backup Plan has been prepared for the client's systems
  • Client is ready to begin Recovery Planning (or)
  • A periodic refresh of the Recovery Plan is required

Upon completion of this process:

  • Recovery plan is approved by the client
  • Changes to the backup system and procedures required by the Recovery Plan have been initiated
  • Key client stakeholders have been trained on the Recovery Plan
  • Recovery Plan has been reviewed with relevant members of the service delivery team
  • Recovery Planning project has been closed
  • Initial Recovery Tests are scheduled
