Process Description

Prior to cutover and go-live, both the client and the provider must be confident the as-built solution meets the design specifications and the needs of the client. Thorough up-front testing minimizes issues at go-live and accelerates adoption by the client’s users. Thorough testing also frees up the project team to move on to other projects, rather than being bogged down in issue resolution post go-live.

IT Projects Module 06a, System Testing, provides a process framework for the various types of testing that might be appropriate, depending on the solution. Functional Testing and Security Testing validate the solution meets the design specification. Integration, High Availability, and Performance Testing ensure the solution performs adequately in the client’s environment.

The Test Plan and testing scripts used in System Testing are developed in Module 05a, Test Planning and Preparation. Issues uncovered during System Testing are prioritized and remediated in Module 06c, Test Results Review and Remediation.


This module consists of the Module Overview Diagram plus 9 pages of detailed process maps personalized for your company.

The goals of this process are to:

  • Verify system functionality meets the design requirements
  • Verify system security is configured properly and complies with client policies
  • Verify availability and performance criteria are met

At the onset of this process:

  • System configuration was frozen following implementation (except for testing remediation)
  • The System Test Plan is complete and approved by the client
  • Scenarios and Test Scripts are finalized
  • Test participants have been notified of their roles and responsibilities and the testing schedule
  • Systems and facilities are ready for testing
  • Test data has been prepared

Upon completion of this process:

  • All required tests are complete
  • On-the-spot corrections have been made for testing defects, where possible
  • Backups have been rerun for systems where there have been configuration changes
  • Client has confirmed that all testing exit criteria have been met
  • All test documentation has been posted
