Process Description

If a customer has been in business for some time, they may have older or custom-built applications which might not be compatible with a target cloud platform. The potential for compatibility issues increases as the application portfolio becomes more complex. As the customer contemplates migrating to cloud-based solutions, they must understand the potential compatibility issues along with the extent of the necessary remediation.

SALES Module 08c, Application Portfolio Assessment, describes a service offering to assist the customer in understanding potential cloud compatibility issues and develop a strategy to remediate them. At the same time, this assessment surfaces applications in the inventory which are no longer needed and can be sunset or retired. The assessment also identifies applications which should be upgraded to improve supportability or resolve compatibility issues.

The centerpiece of this process is a walkthrough of the application inventory, the Application Portfolio Review. In this review, applications are classified by importance to the business and then assessed for licensing issues, potential for retirement, or upgrade. For those applications with cloud compatibility issues, the provider works with the customer to develop a remediation strategy. In the event that an application's compatibility with the cloud platform is unknown, it is tested, and if found incompatible, a remediation strategy is defined.

The deliverable to the customer from this assessment is a comprehensive definition for the future state of their application portfolio.

  • Customer has elected to conduct the Application Portfolio Assessment and has approved the Statement of Work
  • Discovery is complete and the discovery workbook has been updated with the findings

Upon completion of this process:

  • Customer Application Portfolio is finalized
  • Assessment deliverables have been provided to the customer and archived in {Client Folder}
  • The project in {Pro Svcs Auto} has been closed
  • The client satisfaction survey for the assessment has been sent
